Dr. George Varghese did his MBBS from the Government Medical College Trivandrum (Kerala University), & Masters ( DLO & MS) from Mysore University in 1990. He started his career in 1991 as a teacher in the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Subsequently, he was acting as head of ENT Unit III.
Selected to win the ‘Ranbaxy Award’ the National Award of the Indian Rhinology society in 1995, he has a keen interest in rhinology, especially endoscopic nasal surgery (with a special interest in Frontal Sinus Surgery), and rhinoplasty. He underwent a post-graduate course in advanced Frontal Sinus and Skull base surgery at the International Neuroscience Institute, Hannover, Germany, under Prof.Wolfgang Draf in 2008.
He has a number of Indian and International publications to his credit.
Dr.George is a faculty member at various rhinology workshops, and conferences, both national & international, including the 36th FESS workshop at the University of Graz, Austria, conducted by Prof.Stammberger in 2006,& again in 2017.
He performs annual live surgery workshops on Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, & Rhinoplasty and pioneered the Draf 3 procedure in India.
His manual titled’Functional Endoscopic Rhinoplasty’(FER) was published by Karl Storz, in 2006 from Germany.
He was President of the association of ENT, The Association Of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI) Kochi in 2008-2009, & the Kerala State in the year 2018-2019.
Presently he is having a private practice in his own center, the ‘GV ENT CLINIC’ in Kochi, Kerala, & is also attached to Vijayalakshmi Medical Centre & City Hospital both in Kochi.
SURGICAL SKILLS
The Modified Lothrop Procedure ( DRAF3), which gives a 75% success rate ( by way of complete cure ) in recurrent nasal polyposis and fungal sinusitis, is being done by Dr.George Varghese at the Vijayalakshmi Medical Centre. This is one of the very few centers in the country doing this novel surgical procedure, which gives hope to the vexing problem of recurring allergic polyposis, and fungal sinusitis. In addition to other surgeries like CSF leak repair, Endoscopic DCR, Endoscopic skull base surgeries, ear surgeries like Mastoidotympanoplasty and Stapedectomy, and micro laryngeal surgeries are also routinely done.
